The Orange Project
Throughout my career, orange has always been a recurring color in my personal clothing choices and designs. The orange project was created to subvert this false narrative that orange (a color usually associated with incarceration) should not be worn on Black people.
The history of incarceration and Blackness is a long and complicated one, but nevertheless it instilled a sense of need to distance ourselves from the color orange, which was never something that felt honest or productive to the deeper issues at hand.
Growing up in Chicago and witnessing family members being incarcerated throughout my childhood, I wanted to reclaim the color as something that popped on Black skin and this collection highlighted the color orange in a more optimistic view.
